Max Verstappen: I was wasting time in slow turns.
Max Verstappen clocked the fourth time in qualifying for the Miami sprint. The reigning world champion said that he was prevented from achieving more by problems with understeer.
His Red Bull Racing teammate Yuki Tsunoda missed the final attempt in the first part of qualifying and will start Saturday's sprint in eighteenth place.
Max Verstappen (4th): "I think we performed well in the qualifying final. The tires were also working efficiently. But unfortunately, from the first practice session, my car had serious problems with understeer, which led to a noticeable loss of lap time, given the large number of slow turns on this track.
Fourth place is a good result. Of course, this is not the position I want to be in, but we need to be realistic about our limitations at the moment. Considering all the problems, I'm still not that far from the leaders.
It's always difficult to assess the prospects on sprint weekends because we don't have complete data on the car's speed over a long series of laps. But based on my feelings and the balance of the car, I assume that it will be difficult for us in the sprint due to the heat. We know our limitations, but we will try to do our best."
Yuki Tsunoda (18th): "On the first lap, I was hampered by traffic from different cars, and I blocked the wheels myself in the last corner. I didn't manage to complete a normal lap.
I knew that I might not be able to start the second fastest lap, but what could I do? Max was driving in front of me, my team and I had a misunderstanding, and I couldn't qualify properly. As a result, I start far behind.
I'll do my best. A lot can happen on this track, so I'm staying positive."
