Mario Isola: "First of all, let me, as an Italian, congratulate Kimi on this wonderful pole position. For the first time since Pirelli's return to Formula 1 in 2011, one of our compatriots led the qualifying protocol.
As for the performance of the tyres, the Medium and Soft met expectations, and the decision of most teams to retain the two Hard sets clearly shows that this line-up will play a crucial role in the race. As we saw in Jeddah, having two sets of Hard allows teams to have more strategic flexibility in the event of a safety car departure.
The track was getting faster not only from session to session, but also by the minute. We expect this trend to continue on Saturday. The larger the layer of used rubber on the asphalt, the better the machines work.
In the only training session, we did not see long series of laps to prepare for Sunday's race, but only short simulations that are more useful for sprinting. Since the teams can work on their cars after the sprint, the short race will be a great simulation of a stretch in a real Grand Prix."
