Piastri: Before the 18th turn, I locked the brakes.
In Miami, the McLaren drivers, as usual, were among the contenders for pole position, but in the end, they showed 2nd and 3rd time in qualifying for the sprint. Oscar Piastri honestly admitted that he made a mistake at the end of the decisive attempt.
Oscar Piastri (2nd): "Overall, I'm more or less satisfied, although it wasn't my best circle. Before the last corner, I locked the brakes – I think that's when I missed pole position, but still, 2nd time is also a good result.
In tomorrow's sprint, when we start from this position, we will still have the opportunity to compete for victory, so in the end, I'm still satisfied.
We have the opportunity to get a higher pace out of the car, and I hope we can do that, so I'm quite positive. In the sprint, I will try to move one position higher, after which we will begin to fulfill the main tasks..."
Lando Norris (3rd): "The fight in qualifying was intense, but the impressions were more or less good. I'm just happy that I was able to do a good lap. Since the results are very dense, it was hardly possible to drive it much better.
I'm trying to focus on the tasks we face this weekend, and I think we can assume that we performed at a good level today. It's clear that we didn't make it to pole position, but it just shows that the results are very solid, and it also confirms that Mercedes has a very fast car."
