Lightning can cause the race to be suspended

      The weather in Miami on Sunday leaves much to be desired – it rains periodically on the track, which led to the cancellation of the women's F1 Academy race. The drivers' parade, which began two hours before the start, was held due to dry weather, but a fresh forecast promises heavy rains at the start of the Miami Grand Prix.

      In addition to heavy rains, the forecast also promises lightning. In this case, the FIA issued a separate directive to the teams, explaining the procedure in case the race was suspended due to lightning.

      The fact is that according to local legislation, which Formula 1 is required to comply with, a sporting event can be interrupted not only in the event of lightning in the sky above the track, but also in the event of thunder or even "if the sky looks threatening." It is recommended to resume the sports event no earlier than 30 minutes later.

      In case of lightning, the race will be suspended, all cars will have to return to the pit lane, after which the mechanics will roll them into the pits. When and if the weather allows the race to resume, the race director will inform the teams no later than 18 minutes before the start.
