The pilot parade was held on Lego cars in 1:1 scale.
Today's Drivers' Parade in Miami will be remembered by drivers, teams, and fans for a long time. All 20 participants of the championship drove a lap along the 5,412 km long track in unusual two-seater cars, however, very similar to the usual Formula 1 vehicles.
The Lego company has built almost life-size models of their racing cars for all ten teams, on which both the official coloring and the logos of the sponsors are quite accurately reproduced. Of course, all this made a strong impression, especially on the audience.
Each such machine was created by a team of 26 Lego specialists – designers, engineers and assemblers. More than 22,000 hours of working time were spent on each one at the factory of the Danish company in the Czech city of Kladno.
Such a machine consists of almost 440 thousand bricks, weighs 1000 kg and can reach speeds of up to 20 km / h. It is not reported which engines drive them, but it is clear that they are electric, and they are mounted on aluminum subframes. But the Pirelli slicks that stand on them are not toys at all, but completely real.
What these Formula 1 Lego cars look like can be seen from the photos coming from Miami.
And here's what the racers themselves said when they first saw this miracle of toy technology.…
Alex Albon: "Cool cars! But I'll have more detailed impressions after I've done at least a couple of laps on the track. Although I don't know how much downforce they can generate! (laughs) All in all, it's a very interesting story! Hey, Carlos, why did you get behind the wheel? I'll drive this car!.."
Carlos Sainz: "At first I couldn't believe that such a car could move, that it was possible to drive anywhere at all. Especially on slicks, because the track is wet right now, so it's going to be fun!"
Kimi Antonelli: "I'm impressed by how strong they are! Super cool cars! George and I haven't decided who will drive yet, but we can change over the course of the lap."
George Russell: "They say they can reach up to 20 km/h – that's a great speed! But I wonder if it's possible to run into them? You say it took thousands of hours to build each one? No, then it's better not to run into each other – you shouldn't have told me that! Actually, to be honest, they look better than I expected!"
Lewis Hamilton: "I've never had so much fun at the Drivers' Parade! Although some competitors were too aggressive on the track and violated the rules! In general, we had a real pleasure.
It's great that there are a lot of fans in the stands all weekend in Miami, and we were happy to welcome the audience on this lap during the parade, because we were driving at such a high speed!"
