Leo Turini: Ferrari loses in the worst way possible
Leo Turini, an experienced Italian journalist and passionate Ferrari fan with a lot of experience, even doubted whether it was worth taking up the pen at all to comment on the weekend's sad results for his beloved team. But I decided anyway.…
I am tempted not to write anything at all, out of love for Italy. Still, the upcoming race in Imola deserves a different, more attractive advertisement. But there's nothing to do: Ferrari's performance in Miami is just discouraging – literally on the verge of embarrassing, to say the least.
The SF-25 is a far cry from the McLaren cars that continue to dominate. It is inferior in speed to Red Bull. Max Verstappen and Mercedes cars. But now she's starting to lag behind Alex Albon's Williams.
The radio bickering between Charles Leclair, Lewis Hamilton and the Ferrari pit wall only adds to the gloom of an already bleak picture. And all this was just for the sake of 7th place. The red cars reached the finish line a minute later than Oscar Piastri's McLaren and 20 seconds behind George Russell's Mercedes.
I'm sorry, of course, but it's already impossible to get rid of the feeling of discomfort that obscures the usual dissatisfaction with sports results. In short, there are different ways to lose. Ferrari chooses the worst way of all.
Let's talk about Wasser. His two cars are fighting with Williams and Haas – of course, the team and its fans were waiting for something else. What they did in Maranello all last winter is shrouded in mystery, and not very funny. But the race in Imola, which the Italian fans love so much, is already on the nose.
The question is not whether Wasser should be accused or defended, after all, we are not in a courtroom. Frederick has to defend himself, and the arguments for that defense can only be results–if they can be achieved at all. Point.
Now about Hamilton. He is already really angry at the leadership of the Scuderia, because Leclerc was ordered to skip it too late. After that, Lewis had to return the position to his teammate, and he was unhappy again. In general, the seven-time world champion has more and more reasons to be upset. The honeymoon with Ferrari ended some time ago. Unfortunately, one can say it another way: it feels like it would have been better if it hadn't started.
Leclair? When he was asked to give up his position to Hamilton, Charles did not like it, and it is understandable. In the end, he still finished ahead of his teammate. But the debate over a very ordinary result is frustrating in itself. The mistake Leclair made on Saturday on his way to the starting field of the sprint only adds to the overall picture of a mediocre weekend.
Well, let's sum it up: Ferrari loses in the worst possible way.
