Horner: The balance of power varies depending on the track
In Miami, Max Verstappen lost forty seconds at the finish line to race winner Oscar Piastri. Commenting on the results of the weekend, the head of Red Bull Racing remained calm and said that such a lag was due to the peculiarities of the track.
Christian Horner: "During the race, we had problems with the brakes, which Max was unhappy with. I think this has aggravated or contributed to the difficulties. Our drivers said that the car felt numb as soon as the tires started to overheat, so we have a lot to think about after the race.
McLaren is able to control the temperature better, and on tracks like Miami, they had everything under control. But the balance of power varies from highway to highway. For example, in Jeddah we had the speed to get ahead of the McLaren.
The race in Miami showed their advantage – they were able to bring the car into the operating range, in which it proved to be incredibly effective. Of course, if you look only at the speed, it seems that they have seriously increased, but we have already seen how quickly the balance of power changes depending on the track.
We know the areas where we need to improve, and they are exactly the same as they were when we arrived in Miami.
I don't think we can talk about any moment of inspiration, because in Jeddah the pace of our car and tire wear were better or at least no worse than the McLaren. Two weeks later, they didn't bring a different specification car to Miami, but they drove faster, so it's all about the specifics of the track. The brake issues just made our problems worse at this stage.
Now we are returning to Europe on a different type of highway. Obviously, McLaren are the leaders now, so it won't be easy to beat them in the next races."
