Dan Tauriss: We don't want to be like others
Cadillac F1, the new Formula 1 team that is scheduled to make its championship debut in 2026, is preparing for this in full swing, and its first official presentation was held in Miami over the weekend.
However, the press did not find out any special news, but at least representatives of the management team and the General Motors concern shared their vision of the near future.
Cadillac F1 is a joint project between GM and the private investment company TWG Global, which now owns the assets of the American Andretti team, which at one time was the initiator of joining Formula 1.
The team already has about 350 employees, but their number will gradually grow to 1,000, and they will work at three bases located in the United States and the United Kingdom. The power plants, which will be developed and manufactured by GM, will be handled by the team's engineers at bases in Indianapolis and Charlotte, N.C., and the third base is located in Silverstone, where the design department is located.
Of course, everyone is wondering who will bring Cadillac F1 cars to the start of the Australian Grand Prix next season, and different names are being mentioned in this context, but here's what Dan Tauriss, head of TWG Motorsports, who is leading the project to create a new team, said in Miami.
"We are not in a hurry to choose the drivers," the official website of the championship quotes him. – There are many factors to consider when choosing a driver for a Formula 1 team, but time is running out. Of course, there are names on the list of candidates that are currently being discussed a lot.
But it amuses me every day when I read that we are already at the final stage of discussing the contract, although this is not the case. A rider's results are one factor, and the other is his experience. Since the team is new, it is extremely important to receive adequate feedback from the drivers during the analysis of the car's behavior, not only on the track, but also on the simulator.
There are many different aspects, and in order to make the right decision, it is better not to rush, but to collect as much information as possible.
We intend to invite an American racer, but it is important for all of us that the choice is right, because it is important that this racer succeeds. We want this person to be focused on success and ready for it.…
From my point of view, success has different aspects. It all starts with successful performances on the track. We want Cadillac F1 to have an army of fans, and we also want to achieve commercial success. At the same time, we don't want to be like others.
We want our project to be bold, fresh and new, which means we need to find ways to achieve this. I think if you put all these factors together, then success in Formula 1 comes from them."
