Pierre Gasly: I made a costly mistake.

Pierre Gasly started tenth at Imola, so Alpine expected to earn points, but the French rider's mistake on the first lap in the fight against Charles Leclair cost him the loss of five positions. Due to the strategy, it was not possible to win back, and Gasly finished thirteenth, and Franco Colapinto – sixteenth.

Pierre Gasly (13th): "I'm not happy with the race because I made a costly mistake that shouldn't have happened. I got off to a good start, moved up to ninth place, and then had a tough fight with Charles Leclair.

I thought I could go through turn nine on a slightly wider trajectory, leaving Charles a place inside. I turned, but the tires had no grip, I didn't fit into the turn and lost five positions.

After that, we decided to switch to a two-stop strategy in order to compete closer to the finish line with those who drove the race with one stop. However, the late departure of the safety car allowed the rivals ahead to make a "free" pit stop, and I did not have enough tire resources to compete for points at the end.

Overall, we had a good pace this weekend and I'm happy with the car's speed on a fast lap. Next week is the stage in Monaco, where qualifying is very important. We will try to take advantage of our strengths."

Franco Colapinto (16th): "I had a good pace today, but unfortunately I was a little unlucky with my strategy. This was not the result the team was aiming for, although we had a good pace at the start of the race.

The Medium tires allowed me to drive a long distance, and I was on a one-stop strategy. A few laps after the pit stop, the virtual safety car mode was activated on the track. As a result, I found myself in a difficult situation, and when my Hard tires had completed eight laps, a real safety car pulled onto the track. After the race resumed, it was difficult for me to maintain the same pace as the competitors next to me on new tires.

Otherwise, the car had a good pace, I learned a lot and gathered useful information for the team. There will be tracks ahead that should be more suitable for our car, especially Monaco, where very high downforce is required.

I haven't fully settled in yet and I keep learning every time I get behind the wheel. I keep improving and I'm looking forward to next weekend."

Flavio Briatore, team leader: "Today we expected to earn points right up to the moment when the virtual safety car mode was turned on. Especially with Franco, for whom we planned a one-stop strategy, but the safety car allowed the rivals to make a "free" pit stop. That's what happens in racing, and the final result doesn't reflect our current speed.

We are going to Monaco for one of my home tracks, where we will have the opportunity to compete."
