Voules: We're still upset, but that's the way it should be.
This season, the Williams team has scored points on six of the seven stages, and the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was the second race in a row when both cars of the team finished in the top ten. Alex Albon took 5th place, repeating his best achievement of the season, and Carlos Sainz was eighth.
James Voules, head of Williams Racing, commented on the results of the Imola weekend, essentially repeating what Albon had already said.: Strangely enough, the team has a reason not only for joy.
James Voules: "Coming to the first stage of the European stage of the season and scoring points with two cars is great! The race went great, we were really fast, but strangely enough, we are still upset, but that's how it should be.
When you realize that you could have achieved more, this is also a reason for disappointment, although a year or two ago such a result could have been considered simply incredible. But in Imola, we could potentially have moved at least one position higher, and in the case of Carlos, we made the wrong decision when we called him for a pit stop too early.
This is due to the fact that at the initial stage of the race, as it seemed to us, the degree of degradation of the rubber was very high. In general, it also cost us several positions. However, the main conclusion is that we have a very fast car. We've already proved this on a variety of tracks, and now I'm looking forward to the Monaco weekend.
I think, in theory, we can expect a great result there. On the one hand, this track is very different from all the ones we have raced on this year, on the other, at Imola we demonstrated that we can run very good lap times on the new C6 tires that we will use on the Monaco track.
And when we compete on the track with other teams, we no longer have the problem with tire degradation that hindered us in previous years, and the balance of the FW47 is closer to optimal. And if you put it all together, it's great that we have a fast car, but we need to make better use of its potential, which we haven't learned how to do yet. But at the next stage we will try to take a step forward."
