Colapinto: There is no room for mistakes on the Monaco track
Before the start of the Monaco race weekend, Alpine riders Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto commented on their performance at Imola and talked about their expectations for the upcoming stage.
Pierre Gasly: "There were a lot of good things at Imola during the race weekend, but on Sunday evening we left disappointed with the final result. Not everything went smoothly, but we will try to use the experience gained in the second stage of the series in Monaco. I am particularly pleased with the car's performance on a fast lap, and we know how important qualifying is in Monaco.
We are looking forward to a unique weekend on the iconic track. On these famous streets, the rider must do everything perfectly every lap, so the upcoming stage is one of the most difficult of the season. We will gradually gain confidence in training so that we can attack in qualifying, which is incredibly important.
Our goal is to qualify in the top ten to compete for points in the race. Monaco usually has a single pit stop, but this year two stops are mandatory, so you will need to use a third set of tires. Hopefully, thanks to the various strategy options, the race will be more interesting for the audience, and we will get additional opportunities to get ahead of our rivals.
However, the reality is that it is impossible to predict anything in Monaco, because the configuration of the car will be different from the configuration on other tracks. We just hope that the track will suit our strengths. I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel on Friday and starting the weekend."
Franco Colapinto: "It was great to get back on the track and race again. Nothing compares to the feelings you get when you get back behind the wheel of Formula 1, so it was fantastic to return to Imola. The Italian fans are different, and thanks to their energy, the atmosphere during the race was incredible.
It was a difficult weekend, but there were some positive moments. The team learned a lot, and as the weekend progressed, I became more comfortable driving. In qualifying, I attacked at the limit, but I made a small mistake that led to serious consequences.
I started sixteenth, I tried to be patient and compete for points, which I almost succeeded. I had a good pace in the race, but the appearance of the safety car helped the rivals and played against us.
We immediately went to Monaco, where the stage will be held this weekend. This is one of the most difficult tracks to overtake, and there is no room for mistakes. I'm looking forward to returning to the track to gradually gain confidence and continue to develop with the team."
