Lando Norris: It's been a long time coming!
In qualifying in Monaco, the McLaren team used a somewhat unusual tactic: both riders on soft tires drove two fast laps in a row in the final session. It was thanks to this that Lando Norris won the pole position, at the same time setting a new record for the legendary city track. His partner, Oscar Piastri, showed the 3rd result.
Lando Norris (1st): "It's been a long time coming, so I'm in a good mood. I don't think anyone realizes how good it is, after all the difficulties that have plagued me over the past few months.
Monaco is a great place, but it's the hardest track to win a pole on, and I'm proud of our whole team, because we've been working very hard in recent months, and I'm happy with the result.
If we talk about our tactics, even before qualifying, we believed that this was the best way to act – and we were right. The team did a great job, so thank you to everyone who is working this weekend here and at the base in Woking. Such achievements are not easy, and I am glad that I was able to somehow repay the team for all its efforts.
I managed to do a great lap by putting everything together: when you cross the finish line, realizing that everything has worked out, it's really nice.
I'm not thinking about tomorrow's race at all yet. I'm going to fully enjoy the moment that I've worked so hard for. We'll be preparing for tomorrow's race tonight, but for now I'm just really happy with the result."
Oscar Piastri (3rd): "Qualifying was intense, and it was quite similar to what it was on this track a year ago. It seemed to me that the first lap went well, but on the second attempt I made a mistake in the chicane and lost some time there.
It was difficult to get ahead of Lando today, and he did well! In any case, I'm happy, because the weekend wasn't going well before, so I think the third time can be considered a decent result.
I think I've had more contact with bouncers this weekend than in my entire previous career! I didn't work very carefully on the track, but things got better in qualifying, so I'm in a good mood. But all this was the result of the serious efforts that we are putting in this weekend."
