Hulkenberg: I wonder what strategy the teams will choose.
During qualifying in Monaco, Nico Hulkenberg was fast and went through to the second session, while his Sauber team-mate Gabriel Bortoleto was eliminated in the first…
Nico Hulkenberg (13th): "The session was without mistakes. It was important to get to the second part, I'm glad we were able to do it, but I was hoping for a higher position. In the decisive attempt, it was not possible to drive faster in the first and second sectors, the third went better, but unfortunately this was not enough to qualify for the finals.
Now we are focused on tomorrow's race. The car was fast in the long runs on Friday, which adds to the confidence, but the real challenge will be managing the three mandatory sets of tyres. It's interesting to see what the teams will choose, because there are quite a lot of possible strategy options. Obviously, in the evening, the teams and the riders will discuss everything at briefings and come up with several options."
Gabriel Bortoleto (16th): "I was only two hundredths short of qualifying in the second part, which is always a shame, especially in Monaco, where the difference depends on the perfect turn. I braked too late in the penultimate corner, which led to understeer and probably cost me those crucial hundredths.
However, after such a qualification, everyone can say that they could have driven faster. But I'm glad that after a difficult third training session, we found a better balance. In qualifying, for the first time over the weekend, I felt comfortable and confident in the car, which is very important in Monaco.
Tomorrow's race with the new two-stop rule will be interesting. Most likely, we will see several crazy strategy options – some will be implemented, others will not, but there will be a few more chances to win back than usual in Monaco. We will try to use every opportunity."
