Charles Leclair: I can't be happy with the second place.
Charles Leclair failed to repeat last year's success, finishing second on his home track.…
Q: Charles, a great race, a great weekend for you and Ferrari. Considering how this season is going, are you happy with the second place in Monaco?Charles Leclair: I don't know. I can't be happy with the second place. But looking back at the course of the season, the result can be considered positive for the team. We didn't expect much from Monaco this year, as we are losing to our rivals in slow corners. But there is a very specific track here, a lot of bumps, a lot of curbs, and our car copes well with them. This allowed us to partially compensate for our weaknesses.
I think we did a good job. My 18 points plus Lewis' 10 points are very important in the situation we are in. I think we can be proud of the team's result.
Question: Is there an opportunity to recoup here? After all, if the opponent is not mistaken, it is almost impossible to overtake him, even due to the strategy with two mandatory pit stops... Charles Leclair: It's very difficult. I spent the whole night thinking about two or three places where I could try to do something with Lando, and I was willing to take any risk to try to get this win. But, unfortunately, there was no such opportunity. I had two or three laps when I thought I was about to attack, but Lando saw it and defended well. I just didn't have a chance.
Question: What do you think about the two mandatory pit stops on this track? Is it worth repeating this experience in 2026?Charles Leclair: To be honest, it was interesting, because of the traffic and everything else. There was a lot going on on the track, we had to squeeze through the traffic, which is very difficult in Monaco. So I think two pit stops increase the chances.
I heard that behind us, the teams were actively playing their games with the interaction of the riders. I do not know if we want to see such actions in the future. I haven't watched the race yet. But, yes, it's always been like this in Monaco.
It's a special place, especially on Saturday, when you give your best in qualifying, knowing that you might not have a chance in the race. That's the magic of Monaco. We need to try to find a way to make the race more exciting, maybe two pit stops are suitable for that, but I haven't watched the race footage yet to judge that.
Q: Formula 1 cars will be smaller next year. If that had happened this year, would you have been able to beat Lando in the last leg of the race?Charles Leclair: It's hard to say. To be honest, I do not know how much smaller they will be. Overtaking in Monaco will always be difficult, you just adapt your protection to the width of the car. I don't have an answer, but I hope it will be a little easier to overtake next year.
Question: You said that Ferrari needs to be improved. In which areas are you particularly looking forward to progress?Charles Leclair: In slow turns, this is our weakest point. That's why I came here without optimism and said that getting into the top 10 would already be a problem. The bumps and the need to attack the curb helped us, but it won't help on other tracks. We need to get more out of the car in the slow sections.
