Palow won the Indy 500, his first victory on the ovals.

Surprisingly, Alex Palow, a three-time IndyCar champion, had never won an oval race before May 25, 2025, but he won the Indy 500 classic on Sunday.

This is the 28-year-old Spaniard's fifth victory in the six races of the season and, by far, the most important. Before the start of the Indy 500, Alex, who plays for the Chip Ganassi Racing team, stated that he intends to fight for victory, no matter what the cost. Such a determined attitude brought him success just before the finish of the race, which is 200 laps away.

In the final stretch, Marcus Erickson, who won the Indy 500 in 2022 and finished second in 2023, was in the lead, but Palow still managed to overtake the Swede, who fought until the very last lap, and still luck was on Alex's side. This was partly because Nolan Siegel crashed the car on lap 200, and the race ended under yellow flags, although it looked like Marcus had already launched his final decisive attack.

Of course, in these circumstances, he did not have time to finish his plan, and after the finish it was clear how upset he was.…

Erickson may have been the main loser of the main IndyCar race of the season, but he is far from the only one. Even before the start, the experienced Scott McLaughlin crashed the car, although he was considered one of the favorites; a fire started in the pits of the Ed Carpenter Racing team during Alex Rossi's pit stop, and Robert Schwartzman, who sensationally won the pole a week ago, blocked the brakes during the race, driving into the Prema pits, knocked down his team's mechanics, and also damaged the nose cone and suspension. Of course, it all ended with a meeting.

But back to the winner of the Indy 500.

"I can't believe it! – said the joyful Palou after the finish. – An incredible day, an incredible race! There were moments today when I felt like everything was going well, but closer to the finish line, I wasn't sure if I could get ahead of Marcus Erickson.

The race was held in difficult conditions, fuel consumption was very high, but we still brought the matter to an end. And I've already lost my voice, even though we haven't even started celebrating yet!.."
