Alonso uncertain about extending his contract with Aston.

"At the moment, I only hold a contract that extends until 2026."

Fernando Alonso acknowledges that he is uncertain about his presence on the grid if the Circuit de Catalunya successfully prolongs its contract with Formula 1. The future of the race in Barcelona, which has been part of the calendar for over three decades, is precarious, as Madrid is poised to take over the official title of the Spanish GP starting in 2026. Next year, Barcelona may host what could be its final grand prix.

Ignasi Armengol, responsible for overseeing the circuit's new management organization, Fira Circuit, refrained from commenting on the possibility of announcing a contract extension this weekend. "The truth is, I can’t answer," he stated. "I’m not aware of the current status of the negotiations."

Simultaneously, two-time champion Alonso has been formally appointed as the key ambassador for the Circuit de Catalunya, expressing his desire for a long-term agreement "for many years ahead" on Tuesday. "While it’s true that having two grands prix in Spain would be great, the circuit has been a fixture for the past two or three decades and will remain for the next three, four, or five decades," the Aston Martin driver expressed.

"The other circuit may be more temporary, right? But I believe it’s crucial for Spain to achieve long-term stability." Despite this, the 43-year-old candidly admits that next year’s race in Barcelona might be the last for both him and the circuit. "I’m uncertain about racing in 2027," Alonso remarked. "Currently, I only have a contract through 2026. I’ll make a decision next year. However, I hope the circuit persists, which I’m confident it will."
