Domenicali allowed track changes in Monaco
Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali defended the decision to hold a race in Monaco with two mandatory pit stops. It was assumed that this would make the fight for positions more intense, but in reality, only Lewis Hamilton was able to win back two positions in the top ten due to pit stops.
Stefano Domenicali: "We know that the width of the track is limited and the cars are quite wide, and the two-stop rule was introduced to draw attention to this. It was nice to see that the day before the start, many assumed that everyone would go to the pit stop on the first lap. It was discussed a lot, but no one really understood anything. I believe that we have made the right attempt, and there has certainly been attention to this issue.
Of course, we now know what the teams have done with the strategy. But it's good that we had a topic to discuss."
Domenicali added that he is discussing with the promoters of the stage the possibility of changing the configuration of the track to make racing in Monaco more interesting.: "I think after 75 years they will want to change something. We are discussing this issue with the city authorities, but as you can imagine, it is not easy. So let's just enjoy the stage, which turned out to be fantastic.
We've never had so many spectators, so many boats, and so much attention. It means that everyone in Formula 1 wants to stage in Monaco, and that's really cool."
