Ben Sulayem enlisted support before the election
The FIA presidential election is due to take place at the end of 2025, in which the current head of the federation, Mohammed bin Sulayem, and former rally driver Carlos Sainz Sr., the father of the Williams racer, plan to participate.
Today it became known that Ben Sulayem has secured broad support from 36 FIA automobile clubs located in North and South America. They published an open letter in which they supported the candidacy of 63-year-old Ben Sulayem. Fabiana Ecclestone, the FIA Vice President for Sports in South America, and the wife of former Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, was among the signatories of the letter.
"Dear Mr. President, on behalf of the member clubs listed below, we are writing to express our sincere gratitude for your service, dedication, vision and, above all, for fulfilling your manifesto promised to the FIA members," the letter says. – We all understand what a catastrophic financial situation you have inherited. Without the decisive and courageous actions you took from day one, the very future of the FIA would have been in jeopardy.
The turning point achieved in less than four years is nothing short of extraordinary, especially when combined with the implementation of the professional management systems that you have deployed.
As club presidents, we have felt and appreciated the daily attention that you and your team have paid to supporting and interacting with us, treating each of us with equal respect. We deeply appreciate this inclusive approach.
We also recognize and applaud the significant efforts you and your team have made to reposition the FIA as a global leader in mobility and motorsport. The strength and reputation of the FIA brand has clearly grown as a result of your leadership.
Nevertheless, we understand that four years is a short time to complete the ambitious reforms that you have initiated. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you seek re-election in the upcoming elections so that you can continue your important work with our full support, with deep appreciation and optimism for the future."
