"There's a lot of speculation, but most of it is nonsense."
Lewis Hamilton has labeled reports suggesting a rift with his race engineer as "nonsense." The seven-time world champion, now 40, has displayed clear frustration on team radio with Riccardo Adami since his transition from Mercedes to Ferrari. During the recent Monaco race, Adami visibly left Hamilton exasperated.
"There were areas where we just had radio issues," the British driver acknowledged in Barcelona. "I didn’t receive all the information I needed. And that’s all there is to it. There's a lot of speculation, but most of it is nonsense."
While some analysts are advocating for Ferrari to change their driver pairing, Hamilton insists he is quite pleased with Adami as his engineer. "We have a very good relationship," he stated. "He's wonderful to work with—a great guy. We both put in a lot of effort, and sometimes things don't go perfectly. We have disagreements now and then, but that’s common in any relationship. We'll overcome it together. We want to win the world championship as a team."
Hamilton, who previously had a well-known long-term partnership with Peter 'Bono' Bonnington at Mercedes, emphasized, "We're collaborating closely to strengthen the team. All the rumors are just distractions that we are ignoring. For me, it doesn't impact our work. We're continuously learning more about each other and adapting to each other’s methods. He has experience with various drivers, and we have no issues whatsoever."
Conversely, Carlos Sainz senior, father of the driver Hamilton replaced at Ferrari, has commented that Hamilton's performances with the team thus far have been telling. "I initially believed Hamilton was more of a setup driver,” Sainz senior remarked, “but from what I’m hearing, he’s actually more like Charles Leclerc, who relies on intuition.
"Cars are not autonomous; a driver must control them and maintain confidence. Only when you have confidence can you really push the car to its limits."
