Alonso: It's nice to score points on the home stage
In Barcelona, only Fernando Alonso drove for Aston Martin and scored his first points of the season. His teammate Lance Stroll did not participate in the race due to health problems.…
Fernando Alonso (9th): "Home races are special, it was important for me to earn the first points of the season here in Barcelona. The support from the fans has been amazing.
The car's speed didn't quite match our expectations, especially after yesterday's success. It turned out to be difficult to overtake on the straights – I had to be creative in the third corner. I'm glad I scored the points in the end, and we'll try to keep that momentum going into the race in Canada.
We missed Lance today, and I wish him a speedy recovery."
Andy Cowell, team principal: "We are pleased that Fernando's stubborn struggle on the home track has earned us some well-earned points.
At the beginning of the race, we were fighting for a place in the top ten and wanted to extend Fernando's first stretch on the Soft tyres, but they quickly lost their effectiveness. From that moment on, he fought to return to the top ten, until the departure of the safety car gathered the riders for the finish sprint.
Fernando then showed off his racing skills by overtaking three cars in the remaining six laps and staying within 10 seconds of Verstappen to finish in 9th place. We will analyze everything we have learned during these three intense races and wish Lance a speedy recovery."
