Alpine dropped to tenth place in the Constructors' Cup
Pierre Gasly brought Alpine four points by finishing eighth at the Spanish Grand Prix. However, due to the fact that Nico Hulkenberg brought Sauber ten points, the team from Enstone dropped to tenth place in the Constructors' Cup. Franco Colapinto struggled at the end of the peloton and did not earn any points.
Pierre Gasly (8th): "Sunday turned out to be more difficult for us, but overall it was a good result, because we scored points. This part of the season turned out to be difficult for us, and the build-up also turned out to be difficult. After Monaco, the team knew that they needed to win back in Barcelona and earn some points.
Qualifying went well, but we had more problems in the race. The team will analyze everything, but I was very happy to see the safety car closer to the finish line. The team made the right decision by calling me for fresh tyres. We did everything we could, and I know that we will analyze everything together with the team.
We need to keep working hard to fix some of our weaknesses ahead of the stage in Canada."
Franco Colapinto (15th): "A disappointing day and a difficult race. The pace was a bit better today than it was this weekend. This is positive, but it is difficult to overtake and regain positions on this track. Behind the other cars, the tires were wearing out badly, which only complicated the situation.
The race showed how important the position on the track is. I know that I can improve a lot, especially in order to get the most out of a car with an empty tank. I will continue to work hard with the team in the coming days, because I have a lot to learn before the stage in Montreal in a few weeks."
Flavio Briatore, acting head of the team: "The positive results include the fact that the team scored points after a difficult weekend. We know we're not in the positions we want to be in, and the last three races have clearly shown that.
Pierre drove the race confidently, and the strategists made the right decision at the time of the safety car's departure, which allowed him to make a "free" pit stop. Pierre got fresh tires and held his position until the finish.
Franco's day turned out to be difficult, considering the start at the end of the peloton. He had a disappointing race, not making the progress we had hoped for. The team needs to regroup and keep working to get out of these positions."
