Verstappen: It seemed that the third place was guaranteed
Max Verstappen finished fifth in Barcelona, but for a collision with George Russell he received three penalty points and an increase of ten seconds to the result, as a result of which he dropped to tenth place in the race record.
His Red Bull Racing teammate Yuki Tsunoda finished thirteenth. The Japanese racer believes that if not for the departure of the safety car, he would have had a chance to earn points.
Max Verstappen (10th): "We decided to try a three-stop strategy, and it worked well. In fact, we needed this strategy because the tires were wearing out quickly.
It seemed that the third place was guaranteed, but unfortunately, a safety car pulled onto the track, and I had no tires left. We had several sets of soft tires, but each of them had already completed five or six laps, which was not ideal.
The composition of Hard in the final segment turned out to be unsuitable. With six laps to go, everyone could attack at the limit, and my Hard Cars provided less grip. No one expected that Hard would turn out to be so bad. Maybe it would have been better if I had just stayed on the track and not gone to the last pit stop, but it's easy to talk in hindsight."
Yuki Tsunoda (13th): "Leaving the safety car definitely didn't help me. If it wasn't for that, we had the potential to score points, but it turned out the way it turned out.
This weekend, from the first practice session, the car did not have the expected pace. We will try to find the answers. I didn't feel that the car's behavior changed in any way after the adjustments we made before the start."
