Barcelona acknowledges that alternating F1 races is 'possible.'
"Slow cooking produces the finest dishes."
There is a possibility that Barcelona’s Grand Prix could be preserved if a proposal by Formula 1 to rotate certain significant European events annually is accepted. Some expected the event to surprise everyone this weekend by announcing an extension of its contract with F1 beyond 2026, despite Madrid taking over the official ‘Spanish GP’ title next year. However, the Catalonia government’s business minister, Miquel Samper, indicated that negotiations are still progressing—albeit slowly. "The finest dishes come from slow cooking," he remarked with a smile. "Step by step, step by step. It may take days, weeks, or even months—we’ll see." When asked what the event might be called, he acknowledged, "That’s part of the negotiation." It has already been revealed that Spa-Francorchamps is able to keep its renowned grand prix going for the future by not hosting F1 every year. "There are several options under consideration," Samper said when inquired if Barcelona might only partake in the rotation plan. "Two significant parties are negotiating," he explained. "It involves a whole government and all of Formula 1. Therefore, there are many possibilities, which is why this is taking time. We’re weighing all the advantages and disadvantages, but you wouldn’t believe the number of countries eager to host grand prix events. This necessitates a high level of professionalism in management and a great deal of discretion," concluded the minister.
