James Vaulz: We will win back in Montreal.
After four consecutive high-scoring stages in Barcelona, Williams' worst expectations came true, and the team didn't score any points last weekend. Carlos Sainz finished only 14th, which, of course, upset his fans, and Alex Elbon dropped out of the race altogether due to damage sustained by his car in two incidents.
But the main problem is that the FW47 did not cope well with the protracted and high-speed turns of the Catalan ring, however, James Vaulz, the head of Williams Racing, promised to recoup in Canada.
James Voules: "In fact, our race was already over on the first lap, when the front fenders of both cars received very significant damage. We had to make pit stops because the damage was too severe and it was impossible to continue the race with it.
Speaking of Alex, although he managed to win back several positions, there was a second incident when, due to hard contact with Liam Lawson's car, the front wing on the FW47 was not only broken again, but our driver also received a 10-second penalty. This was the end of the day for him.
If we talk about Carlos, he did his best to get to the top ten, but still, we lost too much time at the beginning of the race. However, the reality is that both of our cars didn't have enough speed on this track.
We knew even before the race that it would be difficult for us in Barcelona, and although we improved on all other tracks, these improvements were not enough here. But I am sure that we will recover quickly, and this will happen in Montreal, as well as in Austria and Silverstone.
The fact that we were not competitive enough in Spain is related to the basic characteristics of the car, and this has been hindering us for several years. However, we must definitely address this issue and ensure that the 2026 car does not inherit it.
Although we are worried about these results, they have become an obvious reminder that we must eliminate all our weaknesses if we want to rise to higher positions."
