Norris: It wasn't me who lost, it was Oscar who won!
In Barcelona, Lando Norris finished second and was pleased with the weekend's results.…
Q: Lando, great race! Tell us about the launch. The three of you were driving in the first corner…Lando Norris: I don't remember. All I remember is that the traffic light went off quickly, which took me a little by surprise. Then I couldn't get into the slipstream. Yes, I just... Oscar didn't give me a slipstream until the first corner! Then Max passed me on the brakes. But we knew we were going to be fast, so we didn't do anything risky in the first corner.
By the way, I didn't lose the race. It was Oscar who won it. He performed well on Saturday. I could have ridden at the same pace with him, but I would not have been able to catch up and outrun him.
Q: Are there still tracks on the calendar where McLaren won't dominate?Lando Norris: I hope not. Our team is doing a great job. We have very strong rivals. They were unhappy with our car, and a special technical directive even came into effect this weekend, but nothing changed.
The team has done a lot of work to provide us with a good car, the best for today. And we are proud to pilot this car every weekend. It's a credit to the team that we're in such good shape, although we're still vulnerable in some places, especially in qualifying, where the results are particularly tight.
In Barcelona, the pole position advantage was the biggest this year, but people quickly forget how intense the other qualifiers were. The riders were separated by hundredths and thousandths of a second, and things didn't always go smoothly for us. This will probably continue to be the case.
Overall, our car is the best, we are the fastest in the race, but the others are closing the gap. At the beginning of the year, our advantage in racing was much greater than it is now. Competitors are catching up, so the work needs to continue.
Q: Today was a good day for McLaren, but how do you deal with criticism, including from yourself, on a bad day?Lando Norris: It can be difficult. It doesn't always work out, even when I try my best to switch to positive things. But I've learned to turn negativity to my advantage by drawing conclusions and better understanding the nature of things instead of letting it upset me.
Everyone has good days and bad days. I have my own team, these are close people who know when I'm doing well and when I'm not. I'm not interested in other people's opinions, I'm only interested in those who know and understand me. This team is one of the reasons why I still enjoy difficult days. The main thing is to learn how to turn them into productive and positive ones.
