Krak: Fresh tires compensate for the weaknesses of cars

This year, the balance of power often changes between qualifying and the race – some cars are fast on the course, others are on the fast lap. Aston Martin racing director Mike Krak believes it's all about the tires.

Mike Krak: "The difference between qualifying and the race is related to the condition of the tyres. You only qualify with fresh tires, which masks many of the problems of the cars – and this applies not only to ours, but to all the teams.

For this reason, the difference between cars in qualifying is minimal – the weaknesses of the cars are masked by new tires, and when they complete two, three or four laps, the weaknesses become more apparent, which is why the peloton stretches so much in the race."
