Toto Wolff: "There is a certain philosophy embedded in the design of each car. Despite the fact that the team is a large company with many experienced scientists and engineers, sometimes we don't know why the machine behaves the way it does. I'm not sure McLaren knows exactly why they're so fast, as it all comes down to minor advantages, details, and just good engineering.
Our car has suffered from overheating rear tires for many years, but we have always been strong in cool weather. Last year in Las Vegas, our drivers were happy with the car from the first lap, saying that there had never been such a grip before. And the drivers of other teams said that there was no grip, that they were sliding on the track.
We are talking about machine features that can be disguised by settings, but it is impossible to get rid of them while maintaining the same philosophy. It was hot in Barcelona and we had problems again. Obviously, we need to solve these problems. It is important to deal with the tyres, as this factor will be key next season, apart from all the sporting and technical regulations."
