Leo Turini: I don't want Wasser to be sacrificed.

When we call Leo Turini a "veteran of Italian racing journalism," it's not an exaggeration, because he started learning this profession at the age of 15, and now he's 65. And he has a lot to remember when it comes to his beloved Ferrari team, which he genuinely cares about, just like all Italian fans. But he still tries to see the essence of the matter behind his emotions.…

Ferrari's third consecutive victory at Le Mans is a truly historic achievement. I would like to add that Robert Kubica is an old friend of mine, and we hosted my program on Radio24 together on Tuesday.

And the way the SF-25 cars drove in Montreal hardly caused us any emotions. In a situation where it was finally possible to challenge McLaren, the Ferrari drivers reached the finish line only in 5th and 6th places.…

It's time to think, I'm being completely serious. Firstly, if the last time the Scuderia won the championship was almost twenty years ago – we are talking about both the title and the Constructors' Cup – then Frederic Wasser can hardly be blamed for this.

Secondly, he reformed the team the way he wanted. But since the results leave much to be desired in 2025, he should be responsible for this. I've been talking and writing about this for months now.

Thirdly, I suggest you ignore his outbursts of anger. I've been involved in journalism since I was 15 years old, and at one time I didn't even think that Ferrari, led by Jean Todt, would be able to win the championship.… By the way, he couldn't stand the press at all, but he never blamed it for his failures, and he had them. And after each Grand Prix, I talked to reporters for an hour.…

Fourthly, the Ferrari of 2025 is not a car, but a disaster, there is no doubt about it. However, I don't want Wasser to be sacrificed. For a simple reason,

if the Ferrari owners believe that Fred is the right person for the team, they should extend their contract with him. Without any "ifs" or "buts". The transition to new technical regulations is ahead, and in this situation, the team leader must be trusted unconditionally.

If, on the other hand, the company's owners have come to the conclusion that Wasser is not up to his job, they should replace him as soon as possible. Antonello Coletta, the head of the Ferrari program at the WEC, or anyone else who suits them.

      But on one condition.

The 2026 car is almost ready. If Vasseur is fired now, then John Elkann, the president of Ferrari, must publicly promise that whoever succeeds him will not be billed for the results at the initial stage. Because he cannot influence what has already been done before him.

However, Ferrari does not need lawyers who would publicly defend the team, it needs honest witnesses who are ready to tell the truth.
