Russell: That's not how I wanted to run my home race.

The Mercedes team had an unsuccessful British Grand Prix: George Russell finished tenth, earning at least one championship point. Meanwhile, his young teammate Kimi Antonelli dropped out due to damage sustained to his car after Isaac Hadjar rear-ended him in very poor visibility conditions.

George Russell (10th): "In conditions like today, it's always difficult to make the right decisions, but unfortunately, we weren't successful. After the warm-up lap, we decided to switch to hard slicks, and then there was no rain for 25 minutes, which should have allowed us to gain a decent advantage. Unfortunately, for 15 minutes, we drove around the track in Virtual Safety Car (VSC) mode.

As soon as the race resumed, we gained a few seconds each lap, but the gap was already too big.

Then we pitted too early and switched back to slicks when the track was starting to dry again. We put on a set of hards, but we struggled to warm them up. The car spun, and I lost quite a few positions — we were fortunate to recover and finish 10th, but overall, it was an unlucky day.

This isn't how I wanted to race my home Grand Prix. We will analyze everything, draw conclusions, and try to come back stronger before the summer break."

Kimi Antonelli (DNF): "It was a tough day. I wasn't sure at the very start if we should pit early and switch to hard slicks, but we made that decision. Unfortunately, soon after, the VSC was deployed, and I couldn’t even warm up the tires.

When racing resumed, these difficulties continued, which prevented me from taking advantage of the pace we could have had as the track dried out.

When the rain started, conditions became very dangerous. Even when the safety car emerged on track, visibility remained extremely poor, and there was a lot of standing water, which caught Hadjar off guard. Neither of us had luck in that incident, and although I tried to continue, the diffuser on my car was heavily damaged, so I had to retire.

I want to forget this weekend as soon as possible, but we will go to Spa with renewed strength."

Toto Wolff, team principal: "Today, our performance was poor, with one bad decision after another, and now we need to analyze our actions to do better next time. We have to accept this result, but we must ensure that such mistakes do not happen again.

The initial decision to switch to slicks on the formation lap was wrong. After that, everything went even worse. We didn't divide our tactics, although if we had gone down that path, Kimi’s race might have turned out differently. He was unlucky because his car was damaged while everyone was behind the safety car, even though Antonelli shouldn’t have been at the back of the pack...

At the pit stops, we chose the wrong tires, putting hard slicks on the cars, which are difficult to warm up. Overall, it was a tough day, and in the remaining races before the summer break, we need to bounce back."
