Antonelli: I made too many mistakes.
Italian debutant Mercedes Andrea Kimi Antonelli is not entirely satisfied with how he performed in the first half of the season...
Andrea Kimi Antonelli: "Honestly, I am not very happy — too many zeros next to the race results in the standings.
After Canada, frankly, I find it hard to identify any positive moments. It feels like nothing is going right, that I need to focus, do a reset, because right now I am definitely not in the best form.
The first half of the season went by very quickly, including quite significant ups, as well as some unpleasant downs. On my part, I made too many mistakes. And I think that the approach I took, especially at the beginning of the season, was not the best.
Now, in Formula 1, everything is very close, qualifying gaps are minimal, which indicates that you must always be in top shape, pay attention to every detail, because as soon as you start to lag slightly, you find yourself in a disadvantageous position—and then it’s very hard to catch up.
But I gained valuable experience and now control the situation much better, which should help. Of course, I am not very happy, but I am not disappointed with the first half of the season either. Overcoming difficulties makes you stronger.
I don’t know what my future holds. A lot is happening around me. The team is doing everything to ensure the strongest lineup not only for next season but also for the future. But my task remains unchanged. I have to give my maximum in every race, avoid mistakes, and earn points. I am very happy with where I am, I trust the team. I know that the team trusts me, so I’m not too worried."
