Interesting details about the atmosphere at the Red Bull Racing base in Milton Keynes were uncovered by the British tabloid The Sun.
The day after Christian Horner's dismissal, Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko and Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff held a meeting with team members, during which they joked a lot and advised those disappointed by Horner's departure to smile more.
The Sun quotes an anonymous team member: "It was only one day after Christian's dismissal, and many in the team were upset when Mr. Marko approached us. He joked and advised us not to be discouraged. He simply said: 'You should smile more.'"
With those words, he did not earn their favor. And what is there to smile about?
Another unnamed Red Bull Racing employee told The Sun about Mintzlaff's joke: "He addressed us saying: 'If you have problems, write to your manager.' Then he added: 'Oh, you no longer have a manager, so write to me!' and laughed."
The Sun also quotes a close friend of Christian Horner, who has yet to be told the reasons for his dismissal: "Christian told me that he feels betrayed after everything he and Jiri and his family have gone through in the past 18 months.
He was twice acquitted in the scandal involving texting, and now he’s on forced leave, but no one has explained to him why he lost his beloved job."
The Austrian executives at Red Bull have always been dissatisfied with the fact that their success is owed to Christian, who built the team in Britain. This story, as well as the consequences of last year's scandals, lie behind this.
Christian was simply called to a meeting in London, but he had no idea what it would be about. He was just told he needed to come. He was stunned when he was led into a room and immediately told he was being dismissed. He thought they wanted to discuss something entirely different.
Almost all team members are British, and they are devoted to him and are now considering leaving. It was a targeted attack aimed at gaining control of the racing team, since the Austrian Red Bull office disliked the fact that their team was managed by a Brit. But now chaos reigns in the team. Everything in Milton Keynes is falling apart.
