Sotheby's will hold the "Schumacher and F1 Legends" auction.
Next week, Sotheby’s auction house will hold sales as part of the “Champions – Schumacher and Formula 1 Legends” campaign. The auctions will take place from July 23 to July 30, and over 300 items related in some way to drivers, both from different eras of the world championship and current racers, will be on display.
This collection mainly includes race suits, helmets, watches, various car components, and many other memorabilia belonging to Formula 1 heroes, including Ayrton Senna, Gilles Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher, Eddie Irvin, Gerhard Berger, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Sebastian Vettel, and others.
For example, among the most valuable lots is Michael Schumacher’s race suit used at the 1997 Monaco Grand Prix – during that weekend, he achieved his third win on the classic street circuit, but it was his first victory driving for Ferrari.
The estimated starting price for the lot is from 30,000 to 40,000 euros. Likely, it will be somewhat cheaper for collectors – and such items primarily attract their interest – other race suits worn by the seven-time world champion, including those he wore in Monaco in 1996 and in Argentina in 1998.
Approximately 35,000 euros is the starting bid for a unique Honda CBR 1000 RR SC59 motorcycle, on which Schumacher trained while considering a continuation of his motorcycle racing career. For a comparable price, a chronograph made by the famous Swiss company Girard-Perregaux, once owned by Jean Todt, who led Ferrari when Schumacher raced for them, could go under the hammer.
And these are just a few examples, so there’s a high likelihood that the auction will generate significant interest and be quite successful, considering the growing global interest in Formula 1 and its history. The auction will start online at 9 a.m. Central European Time on Wednesday, July 23.
