Hajar: For me personally, almost nothing has changed.
Between the races at Silverstone and Spa, there was a change of leadership at Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls – Laurent Mekies moved to Red Bull Racing, and he was replaced by Alan Permain. The team driver Isaac Hadjar commented on these changes.
Isaac Hadjar: "For the Red Bull teams, including ours, the changes are quite serious, but personally, almost nothing has changed for me. I know Alan Permain well. He was often in the shadow before, but always played an important role. I’ve worked with Alan more than anyone else, aside from my race engineer. He was the one making the final decisions on car setup.
What was Laurent Mekies like as team principal? He’s French. (laughs) Laurent handled it well. I enjoy working with someone who has engineering experience; it’s always helpful for a driver. We have great relationships. He moved to another team, but we still meet in the paddock.
Perhaps in the future, I will still work under Mekies’ leadership. We’ll see. There are 12 races left in the season. In each of them, I will try to give my best. In racing, you are only as good as your last race.
How did I learn about Horner’s departure and Mekies’ move to Red Bull Racing? I was working on the simulator at the time. Laurent was highly respected within the team. It’s a pity he left, but our situation isn’t as complex as Red Bull Racing’s. Nothing serious, just a bit sad that he left, but that’s how it turned out."
