Tim Mayer promises to restore democracy in FIA

Last year, Tim Mayer was removed from his steward position by FIA President Mohammed ben Sulayem, and now he has become his opponent in the upcoming elections. In a manifesto published today, which appears to be a list of slogans, he promised that if elected, he would "restore democracy within FIA."

Tim Mayer: "Our mission is to provide federation members with a compelling alternative to the current leadership, with a special focus on achieving set goals through an ethical and effective approach.

Today’s FIA leadership has failed to fulfill its pre-election promises, creating only an illusion of progress and leadership. FIA’s rating is continuously declining. Our goal is to elevate FIA into the ranks of the world’s top governing bodies by 2028 based on globally recognized standards.

One key point is the rejection of excessive presidential powers concerning bodies such as the executive and audit committees, including the ability to dismiss elected members at will. In no institution worldwide can those elected as overseers be dismissed by the leader they are supposed to monitor.

We will implement reforms within 100 days. The president will have a clearly defined organizational role but will no longer be the executive director. We will restore democracy within FIA. We will create grant support mechanisms for participants to stimulate growth, establish an independent financial oversight committee, and set up an independent 'Truth and Reconciliation' mechanism to investigate past cases of internal violence, coercion, or violations of ethical standards.

We call on FIA member clubs to evaluate our proposals and offer their own reform ideas for the federation."
