Exit clause ends as Verstappen pledges allegiance to Red Bull.

"He's already made up his mind to stay."

Max Verstappen will continue with Red Bull Racing for the 2026 Formula 1 season, as reported by multiple sources in the paddock and a significant Dutch media outlet. De Telegraaf, known for its close ties to Verstappen's camp, stated on Sunday: "All speculation can be dismissed: Max Verstappen will drive for Red Bull in 2026 as well."

Journalist Erik van Haren noted that the Dutch driver can "no longer utilize the exit clause" in his long-term contract, as he is mathematically assured of finishing in the top three by the summer break. "However, that’s just a formality," he added on X. "He has already made the decision to stay."

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was officially removed after Silverstone, amid rumors that his refusal to allow Verstappen full contractual freedom for 2027 had severely strained internal relations. Verstappen is under contract until 2028.

Sky Deutschland analyst Ralf Schumacher believes Verstappen has chosen stability. "I don’t expect an announcement in the coming weeks, but I think he will remain," he said at Spa. "Nothing is more uncertain right now than 2026."

According to Ralf, Verstappen may have been unimpressed by Mercedes’ slow reaction to his potential availability. "He might have expected more from Mercedes, considering it took time for that to be addressed. For now, he’ll stay where he is."

Despite rumors of a secret meeting between Verstappen and Toto Wolff in Sardinia, the four-time world champion dismissed it: "If you’re both on the same island for vacation, that could happen," he remarked.

With the exit clause window closed, Verstappen can only leave Red Bull if the team grants him a release or a rival team pays an estimated $100 million buyout fee. "Leaving without triggering the aforementioned performance clause, for instance, through internal conflict and having the contract bought out, is not an option," De Telegraaf further stated.

Verstappen’s manager, Raymond Vermeulen, refrained from commenting, simply referring to the current agreement lasting until 2028. In the meantime, Jos Verstappen, Max’s father and co-manager, was reserved when asked about Horner’s departure on the Spa grid. "Well, they decided to make a change, so I’m fine with everything. As long as it works," he said.

When reminded by Nico Rosberg that he had previously vocally called for Horner’s dismissal, Jos replied on Sky, "That was a year and a half ago. Things are different now. I have nothing to add. It’s fine." Rosberg pressed on: "Now you’re quiet?" Jos responded, "I’m always quiet."
