Formula E: Cassidy finished the season with another victory

Before the London round of the season, the organizers of the World Championship for electric car racing extended their contract with FIA for another ten years, meaning that the Formula E races will be held under the auspices of the international federation until 2048.

Nick Cassidy had a bright final weekend for Jaguar, winning two races and ultimately securing the vice-champion title. In the first six races, the New Zealander earned only one point, but he finished the season with three consecutive wins, which is truly impressive.

Moreover, today Cassidy crossed the finish line 13.5 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor – such a convincing advantage is generally not typical for Formula E, although it sometimes happens. On the second step of the podium, as yesterday, was Mahindra driver Nick De Vries; in third place was Sébastien Buemi, a veteran of the electric series, who won the title in 2016 with Renault. Now he races for Envision Racing and reached the podium today after starting from a distant 19th position.

Jake Dennis (Andretti) finished fourth, and Mitch Evans took fifth place. Evans initially finished second on the track but received a five-second penalty for exceeding the speed under yellow flags, ultimately finishing in the top five.

Porsche Formula E Team won the team championship – in theory, their factory Nissan team could have overtaken them during the London finale, but that required both of their drivers to finish in the top four today. However, Oliver Rowland, who had already guaranteed his title early, collided with Andretti driver Niko Müller on the 16th lap and retired from the race.

It all ended with the Japanese team not even securing second place – by the end of Sunday, they were surpassed by Jaguar Racing, primarily thanks to Cassidy’s successes and some points earned by Evans.
