Pirelli's chief raises doubts about Hamilton's performance with Ferrari.

"He needs to begin putting in more effort now."

Pirelli's CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera has expressed doubt about whether Lewis Hamilton has genuinely accepted his switch to Ferrari, given his current challenges in adapting to the Scuderia. "Maybe the mindset hasn’t switched to view Ferrari as a chance to cap off a remarkable career," the Pirelli chief stated during an interview on Radio Rai GR Parlamento’s La Politica nel Pallone on Monday. "Up to now, his performances have not been particularly impressive."

Hamilton faced another tough weekend at Spa, finishing outside the top five, even with the recent rear suspension upgrade that enabled his teammate Charles Leclerc to secure a podium finish. The seven-time world champion has yet to achieve a victory with Ferrari and currently trails Leclerc in the championship standings.

"It’s his level of commitment that matters," Tronchetti Provera remarked. "We all know he’s an exceptional driver. We need to see how he’s blending with the team and his overall performance."

Former Haas team principal and current RTL commentator Gunther Steiner concurred that Hamilton’s adjustment has been disappointing thus far. "He needs to begin putting in more effort now, or people will start to doubt him," Steiner commented. "I expected more. I thought he would be able to keep pace with Charles, but he is quite a distance from that."

In addition, Tronchetti Provera was questioned about McLaren's continued success after achieving another 1-2 finish at Spa. He acknowledged that the Woking team is clearly at the forefront right now. "This highlights the enhanced competitiveness of the McLarens. They have a lead over everyone else," he indicated. "The positive surprise is Ferrari’s resurgence at the top, which is the best news in Formula 1."

"Then there’s Verstappen, who performs miracles, but Leclerc was superior," Tronchetti Provera noted. "We're approaching Monza with a Ferrari that is becoming increasingly competitive. The hope is that everyone excels, because if Ferrari returns to the top, it’s beneficial for all."
