Ralf cautions that an Indy switch would terminate Mick's F1 career.

Another possible opportunity for Mick Schumacher to return to Formula 1 seems to be fading, as Cadillac is now expected to sign Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Drugovich for its inaugural campaign in 2026. The 26-year-old German had been actively pursuing one of the seats after revitalizing his performance in 2025 with Alpine’s World Endurance Championship team. He had previously spent two seasons balancing that role with reserve duties at Mercedes in Formula 1.

"I think I’m too young in some ways to only drive eight races," Schumacher told the Munich newspaper TZ, in reference to the WEC calendar. However, with Bottas reportedly "close" to finalizing his contract and Drugovich still a strong contender, Cadillac may become another obstacle in Schumacher’s quest for a full-time return to F1.

When asked if a transition to IndyCar might now be an option, uncle Ralf Schumacher dismissed the idea. "That would not be an option for me," the former F1 driver told Der Westen. "IndyCar has always seemed very dangerous to me. I admire what the drivers are doing there, but in comparison to Formula 1, the level is distinctly different." Ralf also cautioned that such a move could jeopardize Mick’s chances of ever returning to F1. "Drivers who struggle to establish themselves here often go to America and have a good opportunity there. It’s seldom the other way around."
