Stevenson: We are engaged in active planning.

Aston Martin Sporting Director Andy Stevenson discussed the team's preparations for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the summer break, and the 2026 season.

Question: What is the team's approach to work leading up to the final stage before the summer break?

Andy Stevenson: This time of year is always very exciting. We are preparing for the summer break, and everyone is giving their maximum effort. It’s like in football when everyone tries to score before the break. The whistle for the break is about to sound, so we want to end this part of the season with good results and maintain the momentum for the second half.

The battle in the midfield is incredibly tight, but we are involved in it. We need to keep attacking, stay at the forefront, and make the most of every opportunity to earn valuable points.

Question: What advantages does the summer break in a 24-stage season provide?

Andy Stevenson: It’s very important to use the opportunity to rest, as the season is very long. Our work is very interesting but also very demanding, so it’s great to have some time to relax. The fact that all teams go on break is very encouraging because for a while, nothing comes into our work inbox.

The break is essential for all team members because we sacrifice a lot. These are the people working at Aston Martin, as well as the race team staff who travel, work long hours, and put in huge efforts. Their families provide tremendous support, and the break will allow some time to be spent with families and friends.

But two weeks might be too long for me! I can’t wait to get back to work as soon as possible!

Question: Is preparation for the 2026 season already in full swing?

Andy Stevenson: Lately, I’ve been dedicating a significant amount of attention to 2026, and I’m focusing less on 2025. The season is in full swing, and of course, there is still a lot to do, but right now we are actively planning for 2026.

I have to constantly switch gears, and sometimes I find it difficult to remember what year it is. When I write emails referencing 2025, I accidentally write 2026 because I think about it so much!

We’ve already sorted many things, such as hotels and flights, and work on the car for the next season continues, as we are collaborating with Honda as the power unit supplier and developing our own gearbox.
