Sainz's pressure prompts an accelerated upgrade initiative at Williams.

"Getting the components ready for Spa was a remarkable achievement."

Williams expedited a significant upgrade for Spa after Carlos Sainz expressed increasing dissatisfaction with strategy mistakes and reliability issues in the competition for fifth place in the constructors’ standings. "I could have gained 20 or 30 more points," stated Sainz, who has been vocal about lost chances. "A single mistake that costs you ten milliseconds can ruin your entire weekend." Team principal James Vowles acknowledged the need for the team to respond. "We had the new package in the wind tunnel back in March," he remarked about the redesigns to the cooling intakes, sidepods, and underbody. "As our competitors were closing in, we advanced its implementation by two races. We responded to Carlos’ insistence to put the new parts on track." The upgrades were initially planned for after the break, but competitors Alpine, Sauber, and Toro Rosso had all narrowed the gap with previous upgrades. "It was an impressive feat to prepare the components for Spa. We wouldn’t have achieved that a year ago," Vowles commented. Albon and Sainz secured 11 points at Spa, enabling Williams to reinforce its hold on P5. "It reflects how much this team has progressed," Albon noted. In addition, the persistent cooling issue is nearing a solution. "We implemented another temporary fix at Spa, which still cost some lap time," Vowles explained. "A permanent solution will be ready for the next race or the one after." Operations chief Dave Robson mentioned that it has been "difficult to spot a pattern" in the problem, which first appeared in Singapore last year.
