F2: Roman Stanek starts from pole position in Hungary
Roman Stanek confidently won the Formula 2 qualifying session in Hungary on Friday. Alongside him, the leader of the personal standings, Leonardo Fornaroli, will share the front row for Sunday's race.
The half-hour session began with a series of warm-up laps, after which drivers proceeded to qualifying attempts. Arvid Lindblad was the first to set a quick time—1:30.319 seconds—but almost immediately, a large group of drivers led by Roman Stanek surpassed his result. Oliver Giete took second place, while Richard Fershor left the third best time. Personal standings leader Leonardo Fornaroli missed his first attempt.
Cooling the tires, drivers returned to attack. At this moment, Fornaroli left the pits onto the track. Stanek improved his time by six hundredths—1:29.107 seconds—while Giete and Fershor did not improve and returned to the pits. Leonardo Fornaroli posted the best time, but his result was disallowed for crossing track boundaries at the first corner. On his second fast lap, Invicta Racing driver moved up to fourth place.
For the final attempt on new tires, drivers went out with twelve minutes remaining. Roman Stanek once again posted the best time, improving his previous result to 1:28.779 seconds. Jack Crawford moved to second, and Luke Brainning to third.
Cooling the tires again, drivers began their final quick laps, but almost no one managed to improve, except for Fornaroli. Leonardo missed Stanek’s time but secured second place on the Sunday grid, overtaking Crawford by less than three hundredths. Richard Fershor, who is second in the standings, posted eleventh fastest time, complicating his weekend prospects.
The sprint race grid is reversed—drivers who finished in the top ten will start tomorrow in reverse order. Thus, pole position on Saturday will be held by Jose-Maria Marti. Alongside him, Alex Dann will start from the first row.
