Sauber restored Nico Hülkenberg's car, which in the morning couldn't complete a session due to a power unit failure. Fernando Alonso returned to the wheel in Aston Martin— the team decided to give him time to recover from a back injury and reduce his workload—during the first session, he was replaced by reserve driver Felipe Drugovich.

After the support race sessions, track conditions improved. Teams completed their standard car setup programs and evaluated tire performance over distance— the first half-hour the drivers worked with harder tires, then switched to Soft.

The session was calm. Norris and Leclerc went off track. The Williams car of Sainz had no radio or telemetry, so the team couldn't warn him, and he caused a disruption for Lawson. At the end of the session, the McLaren drivers almost collided, but it was avoided.

Max Verstappen threw a towel out of his cockpit onto the track and was summoned to the stewards.

Norris posted the best time again, clocking in at 1:15.624.

The Hungaroring grandstands were already full on Friday morning. Hungary loves Formula 1, and many tourists come for this event.

In the first practice, there were two driver replacements. In Sauber, Paul Aron took the wheel of Nico Hülkenberg’s car, and Aston Martin decided to give Fernando Alonso time to recover from his back muscle injury— he was temporarily replaced by reserve driver Felipe Drugovich.

As usual at Hungaroring, track adhesion on Friday was less than ideal. Teams focused on finding the right settings and evaluating aerodynamic configurations suited for a high downforce track. Many drivers ran with aerodynamic tape.

Pierre Gasly had to abort his first few laps and returned to the pits due to a loss of power from the engine. After losing the first half-hour, he went out again.

Paul Aron, at the engineer’s request, stopped his car in the safety zone due to engine issues. A virtual safety car mode was declared for a few minutes to facilitate its evacuation.

Sainz, Bortoloto, Norris, and Hamilton went off track without consequences to the cars.

Lando Norris posted the best time again, completing a lap in 1:16.062— two hundredths faster than his teammate.
