Mekis: The problems started right from the first lap on Friday.
Red Bull Racing had an unsuccessful weekend in Hungary. The team principal, Laurent Mekies, admitted that problems arose as early as Friday...
Laurent Mekies: "If we knew what the problems were, we would fix them. I can say that we saw them on the first lap of the first practice session, looked at each other, and asked: 'What is happening?' We saw that in all slow and medium-speed corners, the car was lacking pace, and it wasn’t related to balance. We couldn't get the car into the working range, couldn’t make the tires work. Sometimes this happens, but not on this scale. From the very beginning, there was a feeling that something was wrong.
We tried different setups on the two cars, but it didn't help – we couldn't get the tires to work on either long or short runs.
Sometimes you manage to hit the right range accidentally or through experience, but this time it didn’t work. This year, we’ve said multiple times that this car has a narrow operating window, sometimes very narrow, but this weekend it was too narrow – and we couldn’t get it into that range."
