Colapinto returned to the wheel during the tests in Hungary.
On Wednesday morning, Franco Colapinto crashed his car during Pirelli tire prototype tests for the 2026 season. The impact with the barrier was so severe that Franco was taken to the Hungaroring medical center as a precaution. The medical team examined the Alpine driver and released him fairly quickly. During the day, Franco returned to the wheel, but not for tire testing, rather as part of the TPC (Testing of a Previous Car) program. Colapinto was piloting the 2023 A523. In the first half of the day, the A523 was being driven by Pierre Gasly as part of his TPC program. Later that day, the French driver was supposed to replace Colapinto for the Pirelli tests; however, considering the damage sustained by the car, which had been specially modified for tire testing, it was uncertain whether Pierre would be able to drive.
