Haas team conducted private tests at Fuji Raceway
The Haas team conducted two-day tests as part of the TPC (Testing of a Previous Car) program at Fuji Raceway in Japan.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the team worked with the 2023 car. Since the tests were part of a technical partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing that began last year, the drivers for the runs were selected by the Japanese company.
On Tuesday, Rio Haryanto took the wheel of the VF-23. His outing on the track marked the first appearance of a Formula 1 car at Fuji since the Japanese Grand Prix of 2008. In fact, the tests took place during Toyota's racing festival, so tickets were sold, and fans gathered in the stands.
On Wednesday, the reigning Japanese SuperFormula champion, Shō Suzuka, drove a Formula 1 car for the first time. He also competes in the Japanese Super GT series.
Haas team principal Ayo Komatsu commented on the Fuji tests: "Toyota wanted Suzuka to drive because he is the SuperFormula champion. In my opinion, this is a really good opportunity because Formula 1 is gaining popularity in Japan."
