"Briatore undoubtedly perceives a beneficial scenario if he acquires Perez."

Flavio Briatore is actively exploring options aside from Franco Colapinto, as the pressure mounts on the young Argentine to validate his notable transition to Alpine. Colapinto, 21, was unexpectedly signed on loan from Williams in a lucrative deal facilitated by Alpine advisor Briatore, who replaced long-serving reserve driver Jack Doohan and paid a hefty loan fee for the arrangement. However, Colapinto's performance thus far has not met expectations, sparking speculation about a potential driver change for 2026 or possibly even sooner.

"Briatore remains critical of Colapinto," Sport1’s Ralf Bach stated on f1-insider’s YouTube channel. "Anyone familiar with Briatore knows he already has different plans for the future." Bach suspects that a new strategy for Alpine may already be in development. "It's no secret that Briatore has had discussions with Bottas. However, I also think Perez should not be overlooked. He brings valuable experience—and financial backing due to Carlos Slim, who wishes to see him return to Formula 1."

Former Red Bull driver Sergio Perez was let go at the end of 2024 following an uneven season, yet his replacements, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, have yet to outshine him. Although Perez, 35, has been linked with Cadillac for some time, sources now indicate that Valtteri Bottas has already secured that position, potentially opening up the chance for an unexpected return to Alpine.

"Briatore definitely views a favorable outcome if he secures Perez," Bach remarked. "And I wouldn’t dismiss that possibility." Former F1 driver Martin Brundle also voiced concerns regarding Colapinto’s future. "There’s clear uncertainty beyond 2025," he noted, with Briatore also believed to have a strong appreciation for Paul Aron.
