"We aim to have them sign contracts as soon as possible."

James Vowles acknowledges that Williams may encounter significant difficulties in keeping both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon after the 2026 season, as the team prepares for the upcoming major regulatory changes in the sport. Both drivers are contracted through the 2026 season, but Vowles, who is overseeing a significant restructuring at Grove, intends to initiate discussions early next year. "I expect to see a major shift in the driver market at the end of 2026," he stated. "We will begin negotiations with our drivers early on to shield ourselves from unexpected developments."

Sainz, who made the move to Williams from Ferrari this year, has been outspoken in recent weeks regarding the team’s current limitations, highlighting difficulties experienced in Hungary. "We had a car that was the worst for this circuit all year," Sainz remarked. "This reflects my entire year. In races where I've maximized the car's potential, sadly, the car hasn't performed well. I can't contend for positions fifth through seventh. It feels like everything is turned upside down."

Vowles remains committed to enhancing the team's long-term attractiveness. "I have two drivers who believe in our vision— in the long-term potential of this team, in our investments, and in the direction we are heading," he expressed. "My responsibility is to ensure they are fairly rewarded for committing to this path. If another team decides to offer them double, that’s within their rights."

He also noted that both drivers play a direct role in influencing the development of the car. "That’s something many drivers don’t get— it’s a valuable component by itself. We want them to finalize contracts as soon as possible."
