The two-day Pirelli testing in Hungary has concluded, where the Italian tire manufacturer evaluated prototypes for the 2026 season.
On Wednesday, two teams – Ferrari and Alpine – took to the Hungaroring track. In the morning, Charles Leclerc and Franco Colapinto worked on short runs, evaluating the C3, C4, and C5 compounds. In the afternoon, the program included long series of laps, during which the tougher C2 compound was also tested.
Charles Leclerc completed 144 laps with a best time of 1:19.407. Franco Colapinto managed 25 laps before crashing the car. His fastest lap was 1:20.270.
Mario Isola, head of Pirelli’s racing division: "These were two productive days, during which we made progress in developing the compounds for the next season.
Hungaroring is a challenging track due to numerous slow corners, where the tire experiences a significant amount of energy over a relatively short lap. These factors complicate tire testing, especially for the compounds that will play a key role in the 2026 lineup, which, like this season, will range from C1 to C6.
We gathered a lot of data, although, unfortunately, today we lost some time due to Franco Colapinto’s accident, which was unrelated to the tires. Regarding tire construction, we have finalized the solutions for homologation on September 1.
We have three more test sessions left in Monza, Mugello, and Mexico City, where we will complete the development of the compounds, with homologation scheduled for December 15."
