Villeneuve raises questions about Vasseur's 'continuity' and Leclerc's loyalty.

"We can't overlook the reality that Ferrari has not made any significant progress."

Jacques Villeneuve has expressed skepticism regarding Ferrari's choice to keep Fred Vasseur beyond 2025, emphasizing that stability only proves effective "when things are going well." Following internal pressures from Maranello and interest in former Red Bull chief Christian Horner, Ferrari confirmed last week that Vasseur will continue to lead the team amid the upcoming regulatory changes in F1. However, Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion and son of Ferrari icon Gilles, shared with La Gazzetta dello Sport that he doubts the decision was made purely based on performance.

"If they've opted to continue with him, it suggests that the drivers are satisfied working with him and feel secure," Villeneuve remarked. "They've formed a unit among the three of them, which could bode well for the future. However, if we focus solely on performance, we can't overlook that Ferrari has not improved under his management."

Villeneuve was also candid when discussing Charles Leclerc, who maintains that winning with Ferrari holds more significance for him than simply achieving the title of world champion. "It's a nice sentiment for the team and its fans," he stated. "But I don’t believe it’s genuine. A true racer only wants to win - that’s what truly matters," the Canadian asserted. "Winning with Ferrari, especially when others haven’t, is even more rewarding. Yet time is fleeting, and every driver must make wise decisions regarding their future."

When asked about Lewis Hamilton's challenges, Villeneuve suggested that the issue goes beyond performance or age, pointing to cultural differences and Ferrari's disorganization. "He comes from a completely different environment - English and German approaches. Ferrari's internal confusion, even over the radio, isn’t facilitating his adjustment," he explained.

As for Hamilton's potential comeback? "Next year will be the real contest with Leclerc," Villeneuve noted. "This car wasn’t crafted for him. But with the immense focus on his arrival, it’s fair to say this initial phase has been underwhelming."
