Wolff announces that the 2026 Mercedes lineup is now confirmed.

"I’ve always stated that I am pleased with my team."

Toto Wolff has nearly confirmed that Mercedes will retain George Russell and Kimi Antonelli as they enter the new regulations in Formula 1. With Max Verstappen now confirmed to stay at Red Bull past 2025, the Mercedes team principal mentioned that discussions with the four-time world champion have concluded—making it likely that Russell's contract will indeed be extended as anticipated.

"Yes," the Austrian responded to La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked if the agreement is essentially settled. "I’ve always said I’m happy with my team, with George and Kimi, but suddenly Max’s future became uncertain, so we spoke with him as well. However, I’ve been very straightforward with George—90 percent of the time, he would remain with us, but I needed to consult with Verstappen too. Now that the situation is clear, everything can return to normal."

Russell is reportedly advocating for a two-year extension to avoid being at risk next season. Former Red Bull driver Robert Doornbos mentioned on the Pit Talk podcast, "He doesn’t want to be at a disadvantage again with a one-year deal, having to wait until Max takes his seat at the end of 2026. I believe George will have to wait a bit longer."

Wolff also praised his rookie protégé Antonelli, stating, "He’s a tremendous talent but very young. Our car lacks consistency, which makes it challenging for him. However, overcoming these obstacles is part of the journey to becoming a champion."

Regarding his own future, Wolff emphasized his motivation, saying, "I thrive on challenges. Without pressure, I become bored. I could be a CEO and lounge on a couch seeking performance reviews—but that’s not who I am."

Looking ahead to 2026, Wolff remarked, "I’m very pleased that this ground effect era is coming to an end. I would love to compete against Ferrari—Lewis and Charles against Kimi and George would be incredible."
